RANDOM VIDEO OF THE DAY

When I get the VIDEOS module added to the Screens app these are the type of videos you could play at random at any time of the day. Could be a class feature: one random video pops up at a certain time. Jab

MIND-NUMBING 8K VIDEO - Watch fullscreen/full res on youtube

Travel through Japanese festivals and tourist sites with this stunning 8K highlight reel 【Video】

soranews24.com · May 17, 2018
You’ll want to watch this astounding video more than once to soak in all the beauty they’ve packed into two-and-a-half minutes.
We’re no strangers to the power of a good camera. Last year’s 4K introductory video to San’in prefecture, with its gorgeous foliage and eerily perfect beaches, set an incredibly high standard. Now, Akita-based cinematics company Armadas is here to push that standard doubly high, with eye-searing, gorgeous shots from a number of locales around Japan – in 8K resolution!

WHAT COULD GO WRONG?

Expertly-piloted micro drone records breathtaking HD video of Japanese high school girls【Video】

soranews24.com · April 30, 2018
Watch this tiny camera effortlessly zip around school like an inquisitive bee.
Footage taken by camera-equipped drones can be absolutely spectacular, providing refreshing visual perspectives of gorgeously-captured scenery.
With loads of practice flying the little things, YouTube channel Katsu FPVshows viewers just how stunning drone filming can be by recording a group of high school girls in the confined spaces of a school building.

UNITY DEMO

It's getting almost impossible to keep up with the constant updates to Unity and all its components let alone every other program I use. But here is a nice demo using the latest release showing a scene that would work great in a classroom. The character is great. The tech is too! And it's all real-time.

THE HAT!

Obviously the star of this video is the robot hat. It is robotic, packed with servos, fully programmable, reactive and just cool. Imagine what it would look like to kids and parents to see this in action.

The video is from early 2017 but the reason I wirte about it now is that the hat is now available! I think the price is currently at around $300-$400 but I'm adding it to the MUST HAVE section for the pure impact it would have.

Besides YouTube raised a copyright objection to using the Jamiroquai song from Napoleon Dynamite in my AR demo video and later someone on the band's side allowed it and removed the objection. :)

MACHINE LEARNS - SUZIE

Later this year Unity will gain some Machine Learning capabilities. That is, Artificial Intelligence, Neural Nets and all that jazz. As an experiment and to learn more about the subject I started to play around with machine learning. Using some off the shelf software I created a 'brain' and fed it multiple photos of Suzanne. In fact I fed it 20,000 frames of video and 850 high resolution photographs going back over the last 18 years. So no need to worry about 'faking' other people as I had to use 2 decades of memories!

At first all I was getting was blurry images but after a week, yes a whole week, the brain had studied Suzie's face so much it was producing much better results. After a few silly attempts, like changing faces in music videos I decided something more difficult.
The result is a 14 year old Suzie talking about fashion in Hebrew. To make it seem more authentic I added some VHS distortions and pitched the voice closer to Suzie's.
In Unity we should be able to use Machine Learning for many things like hand-writing recognition, voice commands, object recognition and other fun stuff. The more I looked into the subject, which I only dabbled into in the past, the more fascinating it is.
Here is the video and afterwards a frame grab of the 'original' video so you can see the face that was altered to become Suzie. Surprisingly, the brain also altered the girl's slightly awkward expressions to be more like Suzie too, the result is an overly confident teenager talking about the fashion industry.

Don't ask :)

TRIPLE PENDULUM

This is what I was talking about regarding emergent chaos/behaviour. This is also related to the three body Newtonian problem. That is, with some simple rules which are then layered a system becomes more and more unpredictable and things can happen that are utterly unpredictable.

I'll be using it in the cows game which will make the blocks seem really organic and alive. It's seen in nature in ant behavious or flocking like starling murmurations.

It's a good point for class regarding programming and electronics. More info about that problem here : WIKIPEDIA

CUTEST VIDEO OF 2017

The voice is provided by the CGI artist's nephew Lucas. Strikes me as an interesting idea to get students to voice and also inhabit non-human creatures and try to see the world from their point of view. Might work as an extension of the 'Pose + Print' app. Jab
